Who We Are
Ghana Bauxite Company Limited (GBC) operates Ghana's first and only active bauxite mine, located in Awaso in the Western North Region. The company is jointly owned by Ofori-Poku Company Limited (80%, indigenous Ghanaian ownership) and the Government of Ghana (20%, held through GIADEC).

What We Do
From the Awaso mine to international ports, every step of our operation is built on precision, reliability, and respect for the land.
Our vertically integrated model spans extraction, processing, and export — ensuring consistent quality and reliable supply for global aluminium producers.
Located in the Western Region of Ghana, the Awaso mine has been in continuous operation since the 1940s, producing trihydrate bauxite with 52% alumina content.
Bauxite is transported via the Western Railway line to the Port of Takoradi, from where it is exported to international markets across Europe and Asia.
Sustainability
Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Ghana Bauxite Company. We balance economic growth with environmental stewardship, social progress, and strong governance.
We implement advanced technologies and practices to reduce our environmental footprint. Our programmes include sustainable resource extraction, efficient waste management, reforestation, and biodiversity habitat preservation — aligned with SDG 12 and SDG 15.
At GBC, we believe our success is intertwined with the well-being of our employees and the communities we operate in. We invest in school transportation, 25 national service slots for community members, housing, recreation facilities, and local employment — aligned with SDG 4, 5, 8, and 9.
Strong governance is essential to our operations. We uphold transparent reporting, ethical business practices, and robust risk management processes to maintain the highest standards of integrity and accountability — aligned with SDG 16.
