Feasibility Study Advances for Integrated Alumina Refinery

Development

Ghana Bauxite Company has commissioned a full pre-feasibility study for a proposed integrated alumina refinery to be located in Ghana. The project, which is being advanced in partnership with the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), represents a landmark step in Ghana’s strategy to derive greater value from its bauxite resources before export.

Currently, GBC exports raw bauxite ore to aluminium producers in China and Europe, where it is refined into alumina before being smelted into aluminium. An integrated refinery in Ghana would capture a significantly higher portion of the value chain within the country, creating skilled jobs and generating additional government revenue.

The pre-feasibility study will assess the technical and economic viability of the project, including infrastructure requirements, energy sources, water supply, and environmental impact. Results are expected in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Executive Chairman Mr. Isaac Ofori-Poku commented: “The development of an alumina refinery has been a long-term ambition for this company and for Ghana’s aluminium value chain. We are committed to advancing this project in a technically rigorous and commercially disciplined manner.”

GBC will provide further updates as the feasibility study progresses.
