Environmental Stewardship

Responsible mining requires a proactive approach to environmental management. We act to protect, restore, and sustain the natural world we work within.

Our Environmental Commitments

Sustainable Resource Extraction

GBC focuses on reducing environmental impact through advanced technologies and practices that help preserve the surrounding ecosystem. Our transition from traditional drill-and-blast techniques to surface mining is a key step in minimising land disturbance while achieving greater operational efficiency. Aligned with SDG 12 — Responsible Consumption and Production.

Land Reclamation

As mining progresses through each section of the Awaso concession, GBC's rehabilitation teams follow closely behind. Mined areas are re-graded, topsoil is replaced, and indigenous plant species are used to restore natural vegetation. Reclaimed areas are progressively returned to productive community use.

Biodiversity & Habitat Protection

GBC actively participates in programmes aimed at protecting local biodiversity, including reforestation initiatives and habitat preservation efforts. Environmental impact assessments are conducted before extending mining into new areas and sensitive habitats are identified and avoided where possible. Aligned with SDG 15 — Life on Land.

Waste Management

We implement efficient waste management strategies to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials wherever possible. Regular audits ensure compliance with Ghana EPA standards and our own environmental management system, ensuring that our operations remain as clean and responsible as possible throughout the mine lifecycle.

"We mine responsibly — to leave the land better than we found it."
