Senior representatives of Ghana Bauxite Company participated in the 2022 Bauxite and Alumina Conference in Miami, Florida — one of the premier global gatherings of bauxite producers, alumina refiners, and institutional investors in the aluminium value chain.
GBC’s delegation presented the company’s strategic vision to an audience of international industry players, highlighting its 30-year Parliament-ratified mining lease, the quality of its Awaso trihydrate bauxite deposit, and its ambitious plans to increase annual production from approximately 1.2 million metric tonnes towards a target of 5 million metric tonnes.
Investment Proposition
The company’s presentation focused on several key differentiators:
- Tenure security — a Parliament-ratified 30-year mining lease providing unmatched legal stability
- Grade quality — 52% alumina content, 1.5% silica, meeting the strictest specifications of global refiners
- Expansion headroom — five identified bauxite-capped hills with significant unexploited reserves
- Infrastructure — Takoradi Port’s mechanized loading infrastructure capable of handling capsize vessels
- Ownership — indigenous Ghanaian majority ownership (80% OPCL) with Government of Ghana stake (20% via GIADEC)
Alumina Refinery Vision
GBC representatives also outlined early-stage plans for an in-country alumina refinery — a project that would represent a transformational step up the aluminium value chain for Ghana. The company identified the refinery as a long-term strategic priority to be developed in partnership with GIADEC.
The Miami conference provided an important platform for GBC to build relationships with potential long-term offtake partners and project finance institutions as the company advances its growth programme.
